['gomɛȓ ȓe aβeʎa'neȓa], Gertrudis, spanische Schriftstellerin, * Puerto Príncipe (heute Camagüey, Kuba) 23. 3. 1814, ✝ Madrid 1. 2. 1873; bedeutendste spanische Romantikerin, die die Zeitgenossen auch durch ihr bewegtes Leben faszinierte. Ihr stark religiös geprägtes, von F. R. de Chateaubriand beeinflusstes Werk umfasst neben Lyrik (»Poesías líricas«, 1841; »Devocionario en prosa y verso«, 1861) auch Dramen und Romane. In »Baltasar« (1858) behandelt sie anhand eines Stoffes aus dem Alten Testament das romantische Thema von Weltschmerz und Lebensüberdruss. In dem Roman »Dos mujeres« (1842) polemisiert sie in der Nachfolge George Sands gegen die Ehe. Der Roman »Sab« (1841, 2 Bände) plädiert am Beispiel der Liebe eines Mulattensklaven zu seiner Herrin zehn Jahre vor Harriet E. Beecher Stowe für die Abschaffung der Sklaverei.
